Much has happened since my last post, but the one that has impacted me the most was the loss of my Mom on July 6th, 2009. When things of this magnitude hit us, we can react to it in different ways. Some may mourn and shut down because of the pain, sadness and loss, Others make a choice to move on, remembering the good times and celebrating life in memory of their loved one.
I chose to move on, remembering the good times and celebrating her life. Love you Mom...finally at a place of rest.
Nothing in your past guarantees that you will continue growing toward your potential in the future.
As you prepare to take the success journey, there is essential activity that only you can perform for yourself. That activity is preparing and pursuing a personal growth plan.
That process, more than anything else, will determine whether you will continue growing toward your maximum potential.
Planning your growth and then following through on it is the only thing that works.
From an early age I knew and discovered the importance of reading and learning. It started out with the Nancy Drew books as a young child, where I could imagine that I was on the trail of a hot lead with her. Later on it become books on self development and mindsets , I never attended college so I knew I needed to develop my education outside the classroom. I understood that if I were going to make a difference in the lives of others I had to start with myself.
Next, it become books on leadership and success, I wasn't willing to settle as those before me did. I would dream that I was a leader and success followed me everywhere I went.
It wasn't long before I started to live what I was reading. But there was a process I went thru to get there and I will share that with you today.
- Choose a Life of Growth
The only way to improve the quality of your life is to improve yourself. If you want to grow your organization, you must grow as a leader. If you want others to treat you more kindly, you must develop better people skills. And the only way you will grow is if you choose to grow.
2. Start Growing Today
Napoleon Hill said, "It's not what you are going to do , but what you are doing now that counts" .The best way to ensure success is to start growing today.
- growth is not automatic
- growth today will provide a better tomorrow
"Man"s mind once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions."
3. Be Teachable
The greatest obstacle to growth isn't ignorance: It's knowledge. The more you learn, the greater chance you'll think you know it all. And if that happens, you become unteachable, and stop growing. When you remain teachable, your potential is almost limitless.
4. Focus on Self-Development, Not Self-Fulfillment
Self-development is a higher calling; it is the development of your potential so that you can attain the purpose for which you were created. There are times when that's fulfilling, but other times it's not. But no matter how it makes you feel, self development always has one effect; it draws you toward your destiny.
5. Never Stay Satisfied with Current Accomplishments
Thinking you have arrived when you accomplish a goal has the same effect as believing you know it all. Successful people never sit back and rest on their laurels. They know that wins--like losses--are temporary, and they have to keep growing if they want to continue being successful.
"A winner knows how much he still has to learn, even when he is considered an expert by others; a loser wants to be considered an expert by others before he has learned enough to know how little he knows."
Stay HUNGREY for growth.
Stay tuned for part 2.......
